Time goes by so fast! What great memories I have of Fairfield Highlands and Rutledge Junior High.
I used to live at 1404 Freda Drive and was friends of Roger Carr, Monty & Mike Hyche, Harold Lenoir (RIP), Vann Sykes, Boyd & Steve Hitt, Jack (Tick) Colley, Ray Ryals (likely RIP but not confirmed), Mark Whiten, Dean Miller, Steve Young, Tim Glover, Robin & Ritchie Ragan, Randall Thompson, John Laminack, Curtis Boartfield, David Moody, Joey Whitehead, Billy Hawkins, Larry Jennings, Jimmy & Terry Harbison, Randy & Ronny Burke, Jay Fancher (maybe RIP), Steve Rice, John Brown, Bobby Deason, & Billy Hawkins. I've been trying to locate Roger Carr for a long time. If anyone knows anything about the whereabouts of any of these guys, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Best regards, Ronnie Franks. the dog has arrived.the highlands were a great place to grow up.the frog pong was actually called lake marie on maps.try that name online.
The old Bessemer court house might have some info from way back in their archives. The little ole lady (Mrs. Morris) who lived next to me on Jaybird Road used to tell me stories of a huge gorge just as you topped the hill on Jaybird going to Valley Road and it was filled in from a lake they had made on the hill above the springs, I wouldn't think she was talking about the frog pond but who knows. She was raised there in that area, I have searched the internet but nothing but the freezing of the pond way back when.
We can keep searching though, good luck...
BTW Sean, I hated to hear about Donald, he Raymond Mott and I hung out some... Raymond died back in 2000, I miss our neighborhood as it was when we were young...
Sorry I can'r but would love to know, is it possible it was part of Rutledge Springs which was what started our neighborhood their known as Fairfield Highlands.
If you go to the City of MIdfield page and look in the history section is has quite a bit of old info from early Rutledge Springs Days, which is associated directly to the Old Bethleham CHurch there across the tracks in Dolemite....
