Just wanted to post some comments about the controversy of gun control that we are faced with today.  The argument to ban so called “assault weapons” is they are not needed for hunting or sport and are therefore only a means for criminal mass murder and destruction of human life.   However, when you consider the Second Amendment that specifically states,“The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”, it’s obvious the spirit of this amendment was not referring to hunting rabbits and squirrels but rather protecting ourselves against a tyrannical government.  Also, consider the founders thought this was important enough to make it our second amendment next in line to our first amendment rights of free speech, free press and assembly.  This was not a last minute thought.  Law abiding citizens in this country have a right to defend ourselves with whatever arms we deem necessary, not what the federal government deems necessary

Let’s also keep in mind that over 56 million people have died, unable to defend themselves, because of gun control in the last century alone:

In 1911 Turkey established gun control. Subsequently, from 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, deprived of the means to defend themselves, were rounded up and killed.

In 1929 the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents were arrested and executed.

In 1938 Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945 over 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, mentally ill, union leaders, Catholics and others, unable to fire a shot in protest, were killed by the state.

In 1935 China established gun control. Between 1948 and 1952, over 20 million dissidents were rounded up and murdered by the Communists.

In 1956 Cambodia enshrined gun control. In just two years (1975-1977) over one million "educated" people (about 1/3 of the entire population!) were executed by the Reds.

In 1964 Guatemala locked in gun control. From 1964 to 1981 over 100,000 Mayan Indians were rounded up and killed, unable to defend themselves.

In 1970 the Ugandan dictator decreed gun control. During the next nine years over 300,000 Christians were murdered.

Please don’t think it cannot happen here. Gun control advocates say if their executive orders save the life of one child, then it’s worth it. Nonsense!  If they really believed that, they would ban plastic bags, toys with small parts and amusement park rides.

Not everyone is going to agree with this point of view, especially in light of what happened at Sandy Hook.  I too am outraged and very sad about what happened there, but I don't want to see this tragedy exploited at the expense of our rights being taken away.

Thanks for reading, that's my $0.02!

David said in January:" I believe they will get our ammo before they get our guns."

Guess what has been in very limited supply recently?

I am in agreement with you. T McVay used fertilizer and fuel to blow up a federal bldg and no one wants to ban either of those two elements. The 9/11 terrorist used commercial airliners to kill over a thousand and no one wants to ban airplanes. Drunk drivers on the avg kill over 15,000/year and no one wants to ban alcohol.

Personally, I don't have need of an assault rifle, BUT, I don't want to be told I can't have one if I want one. I believe they will get our ammo before they get our guns.

Gun Control: Hitting what you aim at!!!

The present administration, dems and republicans, are a much greater threat to our freedoms and way of life than any terroristic organization outside of our borders.
