Is your family getting larger or smaller ?

Mine is getting smaller & more spread out. Wife's family is the same way.

It is kinda sad. Espeically around the holidays, you remember when you had a house full !

On Thanksgiving we used to have 20+ in my house, this year it wil be 4.

I agree with Pam.  I hear all over that families are getting smaller and bitchier.  Seems like someone always has to be the center of attention. Fights break out, most people sit back and do nothing except hog the remote and expect to be served like royalty.

It was never like that when I was growing up.  My aunt hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas for 25-30 and it was just more pleasant back then.  Everyone brought a plate or something to eat and everyone helped out cleaning up afterwards...and everyone got along

Smaller.

My mom is the oldest of 7 kids.  There were 2 of us...me and my brother and he is gone now.

I'm not sure how we ever had time for all of the large family gatherings where my grandmother cooked so much.  She had a much smaller home than mine and 30-40 every holiday. We all had a great time together!

I think I have a lot to learn about managing time, space, and people.  My mom said I think about things too much instead of just taking action.  My grandmother said "you do what you have to do".  I don't know how to make things like family gatherings work and the one that I did pull together...I was so tired I didn't enjoy it.  I just wanted everybody to have a good time...and get back home safely.

I love my family (human) for a couple of hours...but then I really LOVE getting home to my dog! =D

There is no doubt families are getting smaller in the general terms.  My Grandfather Stricklin was one of 13 kids and my other grandfather was one of I think 8, four kids were very common and now two to three, occasionally four but no where like it was.

I must say though on Sharon's side of the family we have actually done much better in recent years and this year is no exception, we will have around 25 this year, some are very close friends but still considered family.  Her family was so scattered for years and now most live in Al abd Tn.  her brother is coming from Missouri and it is good to have family together.  My family on the other hand has tried to come closer but still have chllenges there, they are scatted much more.  My brother and sister have rally tried harder to talk and get together as much as possible.

None of us are getting any younger so the importance to get together is growing more and more each year.  I do remember though that the Mize family use to have a family reunion for years in Cullman when my great aunt Nancy was still alive to celebrate her birthdays which she lived to be 107 if I remember right but it was a huge crow of people for sure.  Those type of family gatherings are getting very few and far between if at all....  It is sad too that families just can't gather like that anymore....
